Fraud in the property business is quite likely to rise in the wake of the credit crunch and as people begin to get more desperate for money. The new director of the Serious Fraud Office, (SFO) Richard Alderman, is responding by flying to the US meeting American counterparts from the FBI and the Department of Justice (DoJ). Alderman has meetings scheduled with New York District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, who has 33 years experience and famously led the prosecutions into BCCI and former Tyco CEO, Dennis Kozloswski.
“Following the global turmoil surrounding the credit crunch I thought the time was right to visit the US; to learn how they handle fraud and corruption – from investigation to trial – and to discuss further ways of building on the strong working relationships we have with our US law enforcement colleagues.” according to Alderman
